Adrienne Farrar Houël is Founder, President and CEO of the Greater Bridgeport Community Enterprises (GBCE), a 501c3 community development corporation that specializes in training and placement of low & moderate income persons in green jobs; creating green, community-run businesses, and advocating for the creation of more green jobs in the Bridgeport area and throughout CT. Under her direction, GBCE operates workforce development and employment programs including Brownfields training; Life Skills, Job Readiness and Consumer Relations classes; and has created Weatherization Technician and Building Analyst training as well as other innovative energy conservation training programs for contractors. GBCE has also created the Green Team Enterprise that employs GBCE training graduates and contracts for abatement, retrofitting and residential energy conservation work throughout the state of CT.
Ms. Farrar Houël is also a long time advocate and developer of affordable housing and is currently leading the Fairfield County Housing Partnership, Inc. team, as Executive Director, in the redevelopment of residential, multi-family homes for first-time homeowners and low- and moderate-income renters built with energy-saving technologies designed to meet the guidelines of the LEEDS standards.
Ms. Farrar Houël is also very active in community service. She serves as 2009 Chair of Connecticut's Permanent Commission on the Status of Women, and is Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Connecticut Trust for Historical Preservation. Until September 2009, she served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of Community Capital Fund and Vice President of the Board of Girl Scouts of Connecticut.
Ms. Farrar Houël is a 1973 graduate of Harvard Business School and resides with her family in Bridgeport, CT.
